Starting in Fall 2007, the Drexel School of Public Health will launch an Alumni Mentoring Program, providing SPH graduates the opportunity to share their career knowledge and experiences with a first-year public health student.
The alumni/student mentoring program will enable students to gain detailed knowledge of their field(s) of interest from an alumnus/alumna working in that particular field.

What is the goal of the mentoring program?
Our goal is to connect current students embarking on a public health career path with alumni of the School of Public Health. Starting in Fall 2007, first-year students will be matched with professionals in their field(s) of interest who can offer career counseling and advice as well as provide career options and/or other issues relevant to their particular fields.
How does the mentoring program work?
Each alumni mentor will be paired with a student. Mentors are not expected to offer employment or internships to the student they are mentoring, but are simply asked to communicate regularly with the student as they see fit. The student may have questions about areas of study, career options, the mentor's career area(s) of expertise and interest. We anticipate that early in the establishment of the mentor-protégé relationship, mutual goals and expectations will be established. Also at this time, the best means of mutual contact (email, telephone, in-person, etc) may be set forth.
How much time will I need to commit?
We do ask that if possible you attend a half-day mentoring workshop (to be scheduled in the late summer/early fall) that will provide skills to you that will allow you to provide efficient information to your protégé. If for some reason you cannot attend this event, you will be mailed a packet of materials that will provide you the information needed. We also ask that you attend a kickoff luncheon or dinner (also to be scheduled) as this will provide an opportunity for you and your protégé to meet one on one and will allow you to interact and reconnect with other alumni. There are no specific meetings you need to set up with your protégé. All we ask is that you provide resources and career guidance as needed.
How do I apply?
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, we ask that you provide the updated contact information and send the information to Dr. Marcus Kolb, the assistant dean for student affairs, at mmk52@drexel.edu.
