He also pioneered innovative, community-based treatment for AIDS and tuberculosis. Dr. Farmer proved to the world that it is possible to deliver quality healthcare in poor, rural settings. In 2003, his work was profiled in Tracy Kidder's book Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, A Man Who Would Cure the World.
