The mission of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (EB) is to apply, develop, and teach approaches to understanding the distribution and determinants of disease in populations in order to generate knowledge that can be used to improve public health.
Our epidemiology program focuses on descriptive and analytic approaches used to understand the complex causes of major public health problems and to develop effective strategies to prevent them.
Our biostatistics program focuses on the development and application of theory and methods in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data used in public health and other biomedical sciences.
In addition to teaching and research activities specifically in epidemiology and biostatistics, the Department is committed to collaborative inquiry with colleagues in related disciplines and to fostering thoughtful implementation of epidemiology and biostatistics methods in public health practice.
