From Our Chair

Welcome to Health Management and Policy,

In our department in the School of Public Health, we strive to create leaders who embrace innovation, social justice and a commitment to excellence. Through our MPH and DrPH in Health Policy and Social Justice, we equip learners to develop critical thinking skills that allow them engage with public and private systems to create meaningful change.

Students in HMP have access to faculty members who are experts in policy-relevant areas including health care reform, racial and ethnic health disparities, state and local public health infrastructure, community based primary care, health administration, trauma-informed organizational change, public health training, community-base participatory research, violence prevention, food insecurity, social determinants of health, qualitative research methods and HIV/AIDS policy and practice.

HMP is home to 3 distinct centers: Public Health Practice, Hunger Free Communities and Nonviolence and Social Justice.  HMP also has a broad range of partnerships both within Drexel and across the city and region to impact public health policy.  We leverage these partnerships to create meaningful community-based master’s projects and practicum experiences for HMP concentrators and doctoral students.

Our goal in HMP is to create a community of critical thinkers and change makers who use the tools of critical analysis and innovation to solve social problems.  In the current environment of health reform and growing health inequalities, we believe our students will find a broad array of opportunities for leadership in public and private systems.

Sincerely,
Dr. John A. Rich
