Steven Owens, MD, MPH
Dr. Steven Owens is a seasoned public health trained physician with expertise in global health, public health workforce recruitment and development, and minority health issues – health equity and disparities. Currently, Dr. Owens serves as the Director of Health Equity for the Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE) in Washington, DC. In this capacity, he provides technical assistance to state, local and territorial departments of health (DOH) to address health inequalities through the use of public health systems change tools, including geographic analysis of market research data to plan effective health programs. He provides training on integrating social determinants of health into projects and activities addressing chronic disease prevention and health promotion at DOHs. Additionally at DHPE, Dr. Owens oversees and manages the placement of health policy doctorate and master’s level public health fellows at state and local DOHs.
