The Drexel University School of Public Health and College of Medicine are hosting a lecture and discussion for healthcare and public health professionals by American photojournalist and documentary photographer Kristen Ashburn.  The presentation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 5:00 pm, Lecture Hall A in the New College Building, Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA.  The focus of the event will be how documentary photography can illuminate important health crises, and the role that photojournalism plays in increasing awareness and capturing those events and their large, human impact, for a global audience.

Kristen Ashburn
Ms. Ashburn is an award-winning documentary photographer who in 2001 began photographing the impact of AIDS in southern Africa. Since then she has produced stories on the spread of tuberculosis in the Russian penal system, Jewish Settlers and suicide bombers in Israel’s Occupied Territories, and the aftermaths of the tsunami in Sri Lanka and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Her work has appeared in many publications, including The New Yorker, Time, Newsweek, and Life.
