"Healthcare for the Underserved in Philadelphia"
Mira Gohel, MD, Philadelphia Department of Public Health
This session will provide a practical overview of the scope of services provided at the PDPH Health Care Centers. The Centers are integral to providing outpatient primary care services to Philadelphia communities. They are particularly adept at facilitating care to the most medically needy vulnerable populations that are uninsured or underinsured. Both by necessity and by design, the PDPH has developed partnerships with numerous community based agencies, community and academic hospitals, and not for profit health service organizations in order to help individuals navigate systems and obtain services with the ultimate goal of improved health outcomes. Case based scenarios will demonstrate the complexities, challenges and the rewards of providing timely care to vulnerable and uninsured individuals who seek services at public health care centers.
