"Eating out and living large: Associations between fast food and obesity"
Obesity has become a leading cause of chronic illness and premature mortality in the U.S. Fast food consumption has increased rapidly in recent decades and may be an important determinant of the dramatic rise in obesity rates over the same period. Poor dietary habits associated with frequent visits to fast-food restaurants include increased intake of foods high in calories and fat such as soft drinks, burgers, pizza, and french fries, and decreased intake of vegetables, fruit, and milk. The seminar will review evidence linking fast food consumption habits with the increased prevalence of obesity in adults and children.
