"Biostatistics and RT-qPCR, applications in translational colorectal cancer research"

In close collaboration with laboratory scientists, Dr. Hyslop has completed two multi-center studies suggesting GUCY2C expression impacts colorectal cancer prognosis. An ongoing study is also is now exploring this association further. During this collaboration, Dr. Hyslop has developed statistical
methods to assess the selection of housekeeping genes, measure gene expression levels, and to determine the association of expression with patient clinical outcomes. This presentation will review these methods and demonstrate how results have informed the design of the first-in-human clinical trial for a colorectal cancer vaccine. Current and future challenges include developing appropriate models to measure multiplex assays as well as models that allow sufficient flexibility across RT-qPCR
platforms. Issues will also be highlighted relating to optimal design of clinical trials that test implementation of biomarkerbased therapy selection.
