The 4th Annual National Network of Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs (NNHVIP) Conference will take place in Philadelphia, PA on August 29-30, 2012. The focus of this year's conference is "Understanding Impact of Trauma on Victims' Recovery & Progress." Goals of the conference include:

Provide a forum to bring together hospital and community-based healthcare and service providers, policy makers, and researchers with a vested interest in developing and strengthening hospital-based violence intervention programs.
Offer a platform for invited Keynote and Plenary Session speakers who have a vested interest in violence prevention and intervention and have advocated for increased recognition of this vulnerable population and improved access to services.
Focus on strategies to address the psychological trauma of violence which often goes unaddressed in health care settings. This trauma may impede the recovery processes and can increase risk for both re-injury and retaliation.
Provide information, feedback and national visibility for a trauma-informed approach that addresses the needs of victims of violence, particularly young males of color.
Provide a venue for collectively identifying, prioritizing and discussing the trauma-related service barriers affecting youth victims of violence, particularly young males of color.
Offer workshops facilitated by the Network's Research, Policy, and Workforce Development Workgroups, which will meet the needs of both program administrators and frontline staff.

Constance Rice, Esq: Rice is Co-Director for the Advancement Project, Los Angeles and renowned for her unconventional approaches to tackling problems of inequity and exclusion. She has received more than 50 major awards for her leadership of diverse coalitions, and her nontraditional approaches to litigating major cases involving police misconduct, employment discrimination and fair public resource allocation. She received the 2001 Peace Prize from the California Wellness Foundation and the John Anson Ford Humanitarian Award from Los Angeles County. She successfully co-litigated class-action, civil rights cases, winning more than $1.6 billion in policy changes and remedies during her nine year tenure in the Los Angeles office of the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. In 1998, the Los Angeles Times designated her one of 24 leaders considered the “most experienced, civic minded and thoughtful people on the subject of Los Angeles.” In 1999 California Law Business named her one of California’s top 10 most influential lawyers. She serves on the boards of the Public Policy Institute of California and public radio station KPCC. Rice is a graduate of Harvard College and the New York University School of Law.
