Bio Abstract

Dr. Perez is certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and serves as director of the Drexel School of Public Health's industrial hygiene consulting service. He is also board certified in safety by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Dr. Perez collaborates extensively with both the Philadelphia Housing Authority and the Philadelphia Department of Health on their federally funded Healthy Homes Demonstration Projects. This work has included research into health and safety hazards in family daycare homes in inner city Philadelphia as well as the development and delivery of asthma interventions in public housing. He has also worked closely with inner city populations to reduce pesticide exposures in residential environments. Dr. Perez is additionally actively involved in international industrial hygiene work, lecturing and consulting in India and Sri Lanka on issues of occupational health.  Dr. Perez is currently a member of both the Roundtable on Environmental Health Sciences, Research and Medicine and the Committee on Respiratory Protection Curriculum for Occupational Health Nurses of the Institute of Medicine. He served as consultant, facilitator, and report writer to the Mold Task Force of the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Additionally, he has served as a grant reviewer for internal proposals at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health as well as a senior grant reviewer for Round 12 of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Lead Hazard Control Grant Program.

Recent Research

Healthy Homes Intervention Study:  (Principal Investigator) This grant from the Philadelphia Housing Authority will pay for activities to correct safety and health hazards that produce asthma, lead poisoning and allergies in children of low-income families. -
