New Changes to Medicaid: Proof of Citizenship Required

9/5/2006

Effective July 1, 2006, the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 requires individuals to show documentation of their U.S. citizenship as well as proof of identity. If you already have Medicaid or are applying for Medicaid you will have to provide proof of both citizenship and identity. The best way to document your citizenship and identity is:

  • A U.S. Passport
  • A Certificate of Naturalization, or
  • A Certificate of U.S. Citizenship

If you do not have one of these documents, you will be required to provide two separate documents: one showing proof of your U.S. citizenship and one for identification.
