Hans Kersten, MD, medical director of the Philadelphia GROW Clinic has recently received a Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) grant from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The CATCH grant supports the mission of the Philadelphia GROW Clinic, which works to prevent the long-term developmental effects of failure to thrive (FTT) and lack of adequate nutrition in infants and toddlers aged zero to three.
The CATCH grant will help facilitate and create a network of Philadelphia anti-hunger advocates creating a “working group” in Philadelphia focusing on the following goals:
- Improve access to nutrition and medical care for infants and toddlers at risk of under nutrition and FTT by developing a protocol to address FTT and lack of adequate nutrition.
- Developing and disseminating culturally competent nutrition education to providers and families.
- Establishing and fostering a long-term relationship with community agencies that are committed to developing effective strategies to reducing the effects of hunger in Philadelphia.
