Dr. Swarna S. Vepa will speak at the School of Public Health on "Food insecurity, hunger and the gender gap in developing countries," on April 9, 4:30 PM, in Room 604 of the Bellet Building (Sixth Floor). The event is open to all and refreshments will be served.
Dr. Swarna S. Vepa received her PhD from the Department of Economics at the Delhi School of Economics in 1994. Her research interests include gender concerns and gender equality, rural and urban food insecurity, agriculture sustainability and reforms related to poverty, inequality and employment. She is currently a visiting professor at the Madras School of Economics in Chenni, India. Prior to this, Dr. Vepa was the Ford Foundation Chair for Women and Sustainable Food Security at the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation in Chennai India. Her research base is mostly in India and Asia. and Dr. Vepa has been funded by the United Nations World Food Program.
