Nathalie Bartle, EdD, (middle left) professor at the Drexel University School of Public Health and the Chair of the school’s Maternal and Child Health Working Group received the Spirit of Motherhood Award from the Maternity Care Coalition (MCC) at the launch of the organization’s annual Celebrating Mothers campaign on March 10, 2012.
Dr. Bartle was awarded for embodying the MCC’s mission to advance maternal and child health in her profession and service to the community. She was introduced by alumna Monica Cheriyan '03, who was one of Dr. Bartle's advisees and conducted her Community-based Master's Project (CBMP) at the Maternity Care Coalition. The title of her CBMP was "A Comparison Study: Investigating Possible Factors that Influence Teenage Mothers to be Either Non-Repeat or Repeat Childbearers." Monica is currently a third-year medical student at Northeast Ohio Medical School.
The event is entitled “Escape to Hawaii” and featured music, art, dancing, and delectable island fare with an Asian flair. Nydia Han of 6abc was emcee the event. The Celebrating Mothers campaign raises approximately $180,000 annually to help the MCC continue to improve the health and wellbeing of pregnant women, children and families through direct services, research and public policy.
