Cizely Kurian, Class of 2005, won Third Place, Single Discipline Award Division, in the Secretary's Award Competition for Innovations in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, a national competition. Cizely received the award for "Photovoices: Uncovering Family Experiences Behind Welfare Policies and Programs."
"The Secretary's Award for Innovations in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention recognizes forward-thinking proposals by health professions students and generates creative strategies for addressing goals outlined in [the US Dept. of Health and Human Service's] Healthy People 2010: Understanding and Improving Health. The program is sponsored by [Health Resources and Services Administration's] Bureau of Health Professions in collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions, and is coordinated by FASHP-member [American Association of Colleges of Nursing]."
