Dean Gold Speaks at Safer Streets Forum in Philadelphia

On Friday, January 19, Dean Marla J. Gold, MD, Drexel School of Public Health, spoke at the United We Stand for Operation Safer Streets Community Forum in Center City. Convened by Mayor John F. Street, the forum brought together state, city and community stakeholders to review Philadelphia’s Operation Safer Streets and review a strategic plan for promoting public safety in 2007.

Dean Gold spoke about the role of public health in the epidemic of violence, and sat on a panel with the Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester M. Johnson, and other city leaders. Community-based organizations, researchers, law enforcement officers, business leaders, government officials, social services providers, town watch members, block captains, ex-offenders, clergy and youth groups also participated in the forum.
