Kim Spaude '05 Co-Authors Flu Vaccine Article

Drexel University School of Public Health graduate Kimberly Spaude, MPH '05, recently evaluated how prior influenza vaccinations impacted the mortality rates and other health outcomes of patients hospitalized due to community-acquired influenza. The study was published in the January 8 edition of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

In the report, Spaude – along with a series of researchers who co-authored the report, including former SPH faculty member Dr. David Fisman – found that prior influenza vaccination improved the survival rates of patients hospitalized with community-acquired influenza. According to the authors, the finding, if confirmed by additional studies, presents an important additional benefit of enhanced influenza vaccine coverage.
