SPH Students Continue Tradition of Volunteering on MLK Day

In what is now becoming a tradition at the School of Public Health, MPH students, for the second straight year, volunteered their time and muscle at the Boys & Girls Club in Germantown, to celebrate the life and spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on January 21.

SGO Member Michael Chin '09 created a video (3:58 minutes) of the day's activities. Please click here to watch the video. (Requires Windows Media Player or RealPlayer.) For Mac users and other formats, please click here for streaming video.

The students spent the day helping the local organization’s staff clean up and organize the club, including sweeping and painting the premises. In addition, the students learned about the history of the Boys & Girls Clubs, and helped prepare meals for members of local families in attendance.

The students volunteered through the United Way Martin Luther King Day of Service program, which organized various projects for groups or individuals across the city.

Daniel Gordy, Senior Program Director of the Germantown club, thanked the students for the efforts. "I'm very happy always to have the Drexel University group come out to us. They have helped us to realize our mission of enabling and inspiring all youth to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. And I look forward to their coming next year."
