Admissions and Application Requirements

The Drexel University School of Public Health offers the following programs:

Full-time Master of Public Health (MPH)
Executive Master of Public Health (MPH)designed for working professionals
Master of Science in Biostatistics
DrPH in Community Health and Prevention
DrPH in Health Policy and Social Justice
PhD in Epidemiology

Certificate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Certificate in Global Health
Certificate in LGBT Health


All master's and doctoral programs at the School of Public Health begin in the fall of each year. The certificate programs offer entry points during different terms. Please check the individual program websites for specific application deadlines.
 


 



Full-time MPH program

Application deadline: June 30th for fall entry. Applications are continually reviewed.

All applicants to the full-time MPH program must submit their application through the Schools of Public Health Application Service (www.sophas.org)

A completed application consists of the following:

  1. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  2. Official results from the GRE* taken within the last 5 years (code to submit to SOPHAS is 7890)
  3. Three (3) letters of recommendation preferably from faculty
  4. Essay discussing how you became interested in public health, your career goals if known at this time and why you are interested in Drexel University. Typical length is 1,000 words.
  5. Resume
  6. IELTS or TOEFL results for non-native English speakers (taken within the last 2 years)
  7. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts (international applications only)

*Drexel University will also consider any one of the following exams in lieu of the GRE:

  1. Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
  2. Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
  3. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
  4. Dental Admissions Test (DAT)

All standardized test scores must be within a 5 year timeframe.
   
Prior to enrolling in the program, applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Drexel University encourages students of all majors to apply to the MPH program, however a course in Statistics is highly recommended. Competitive applicants typically have a GPA of at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) with GREs of at least the 50th percentile in each section. Letters of recommendation should come from faculty members, however exceptions can be made if the applicant has been out of school for some time. The Admissions Committee holistically reviews each application taking special note of an applicant’s knowledge and motivation toward the public health profession through close evaluation of the applicant’s essay and letters of recommendation.





 

Executive MPH Program

Application Deadline: June 30th for fall entry. Applications are continually reviewed.

Applicants to the Executive MPH Program should apply through the Drexel University Graduate Application accessible at www.drexel-grad.org/apply/.

A completed application consists of the following:

  1. $75 application fee (waived if you apply online)
  2. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended
  3. Official results*  from one of the following exams taken within the last 5 years:
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) – code 2194
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
  •  Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
  •  Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)

*Standardized test scores can be waived if the applicant has a master’s or first professional degree from an accredited school in the US.

  1. Results from the IELTS or TOEFL exam (non-native English speakers only)
  2. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts
  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation – should come from faculty, employer or professional sources
  4. Essay discussing your interests in public health and how an MPH will allow you to achieve your professional goals
  5. Resume/CV

Applicants to the Executive MPH program must have a minimum of three years of professional work experience at the time of enrollment and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A course in statistics is highly recommended, but not required. The Admissions Committee considers a variety of factors when reviewing candidates for admission, such as academic performance and the applicant’s decision to pursue a career in public health through close evaluation of the essay and letters of recommendation.







Master of Science (MS) in Biostatistics

Application Deadline: June 30th for fall entry. Applications are continually reviewed.

Pre-requisites:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, economics or computer science
  • Calculus 1 and 2
  • 1 semester of Linear Algebra

Applicants to the MS in Biostatistics should apply through the Drexel University Graduate Application accessible at www.drexel-grad.org/apply/.

A completed application consists of the following:

  1. $75 application fee (waived if you apply online)
  2. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended
  3. Official results from the GRE taken within the last 5 years
  4. Results from the IELTS or TOEFL exam (non-native English speakers only)
  5.  World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts (international applications only)
  6.  Three (3) letters of recommendation
  7. Essay describing your educational and career goals
  8. Resume

Applicants to the MS in Biostatistics program should have strong GRE Quantitative scores as well coursework in mathematics or a related quantitative or science field.






Doctoral Programs – DrPH and PhD


Application deadlines for fall entry:

DrPH Programs

Early Decision – January 15th
Regular Decision – March 15th

PhD Program

January 15th

Pre-requisites:
    · Master’s degree in public health or a related field
    · Evidence of applied research skills

Applicants to the doctoral programs should apply through the Drexel University Graduate Application accessible at www.drexel-grad.org/apply/.

A completed application consists of the following:

  1. a. $75 application fee (waived if you apply online)
  2. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended
  3. Official results from the GRE taken within the last 5 years
  4. Results from the IELTS or TOEFL exam (non-native English speakers only)
  5. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts (international applications only)
  6. Three (3) letters of recommendation
  7. Essay describing your educational and career goals
  8. Resume/CV

In-person or telephone interviews are required for all finalists. Applicants should visit the doctoral program websites to view additional requirements and application information.






MD/MPH Joint Degree


Eligible applicants to the MD/MPH program must first submit their application to the Drexel University College of Medicine. On the College of Medicine’s supplemental application, please check the “public health interest” box to be automatically considered for the MD/MPH program. If the applicant is accepted to the College of Medicine, they will then be reviewed for admission to the dual degree program. Second year medical students can be considered for admission to the MD/MPH program on a case by case basis. A completed application consists of the following:

JD/MPH Joint Degree


Applicants to the JD/MPH program must first obtain admission to the Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law. Once the applicant has been accepted to the School of Law, complete the following:

    · School of Public Health Application Release Form

    · Essay describing your interests in public health and how the JD/MPH program will allow you to achieve your academic and professional goals







Epidemiology and Biostatistics Certificate


Application deadline: Rolling, all applicants accepted for fall or winter terms

Pre-requisites: Bachelor’s degree

Applicants to the certificate program must submit the following:
