Admissions and Application Requirements

The Drexel University School of Public Health offers the following programs:

Full-time Master of Public Health (MPH)
Executive Master of Public Health (MPH) – designed for working professionals
Master of Science (MS) in Biostatistics
DrPH in Community Health and Prevention
DrPH in Health Policy and Social Justice
PhD in Epidemiology
MD/MPH
JD/MPH
Certificate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics

All master's and doctoral programs at the School of Public Health begin in the fall of each year. The Certificate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics begins in both the fall and winter term. Please check the individual program websites for specific application deadlines.


Full-time MPH program
Application deadline: Rolling admission. Applications are continually reviewed.

1. Complete your application through the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) available at www.sophas.org.

2. Arrange to have the following sent directly to SOPHAS:

    a. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
    b. Three (3) letters of recommendation
    c. Essay
    d. Resume
    e. IELTS or TOEFL results for non-native English speakers
    f. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts
       (international applications only)

3. Submit results from any one of the following exams (taken within the last 5 years) to the Drexel University Office of Graduate Admission:

    a. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) – code 2194
    b. Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
    c. Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
    d. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)

Prior to enrolling in the program, applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Drexel University encourages students of all majors to apply to the MPH program, however a course in Statistics is highly recommended. Competitive applicants typically have a GPA of at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) with GREs of at least 1000. Letters of recommendation should come from faculty members, however exceptions can be made if the applicant has been out of school for some time. The Admissions Committee holistically reviews each application taking special note of an applicant’s knowledge and motivation toward the public health profession through close evaluation of the applicant’s essay and letters of recommendation.


Executive MPH Program
Application Deadline: Rolling admission. Applications are continually reviewed.

Applicants to the Executive MPH Program must submit the following:

1. Completed application available at www.drexel.edu/em/grad

2. $75 application fee (waived if you apply online)

3. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended

4. Official results from one of the following exams taken within the last 5 years:

    a. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) – code 2194
    b. Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
    c. Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
    d. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)

Standardized test scores can be waived if the applicant has a master’s or first professional degree from an accredited school in the US.

5. Results from the IELTS or TOEFL exam (non-native English speakers only)

6. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts (international applications only)

7. Two (2) letters of recommendation

8. Essay describing a current pressing public health issue and why a career in this field appeals to you

9. Resume

Applicants to the Executive MPH program must have a minimum of three years work experience (in any field), and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A course in statistics is highly recommended, but not required. The Admissions Committee considers a variety of factors when reviewing candidates for admission, such as academic performance and the applicant’s decision to pursue a career in public health through close evaluation of the essay and letters of recommendation.


Master of Science (MS) in Biostatistics
Application Deadline: June 30th for fall admission

Pre-requisites:
    · Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, economics or computer science
    · 2 semesters of Calculus

Applicants to the MS in Biostatistics must submit the following:

1. Completed application available at www.drexel.edu/em/grad

2. $75 application fee (waived if you apply online)

3. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended

4. Official results from the GRE taken within the last 5 years

5. Results from the IELTS or TOEFL exam (non-native English speakers only)

6. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts (international applications only)

7. Three (3) letters of recommendation

8. Essay describing your educational and career goals

9. Resume

Applicants to the MS in Biostatistics program should have strong GRE Quantitative scores as well coursework in mathematics or a related quantitative or science field.


Doctoral Programs – DrPH and PhD
Application Deadlines:
Early Decision – January 15th
Regular Decision – March 15th (DrPH programs), April 15th (PhD program)

Pre-requisites:
    · Master’s degree in public health or a related field
    · Evidence of applied research skills

Applicants to the doctoral programs must submit the following:

1. Completed application available at www.drexel.edu/em/grad

2. $75 application fee (waived if you apply online)

3. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended

4. Official results from the GRE taken within the last 5 years

5. Results from the IELTS or TOEFL exam (non-native English speakers only)

6. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts (international applications only)

7. Three (3) letters of recommendation

8. Essay describing your educational and career goals including area of dissertation interest

9. CV or Resume

In-person or telephone interviews are required for all finalists. Please check the individual doctoral programs websites for any additional application or admissions requirements.


MD/MPH Joint Degree
Application deadline: Rolling

Applicants to the MD/MPH program must first obtain admission to the Drexel University College of Medicine. Once the applicant has been accepted to the College of Medicine, complete the following:

    · School of Public Health Application Release Form

    · Essay describing what you think is the most pressing public health issue today, and why a career in this field appeals to you.


JD/MPH Joint Degree
Application deadline: Rolling

Applicants to the JD/MPH program must first obtain admission to the Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law. Once the applicant has been accepted to the School of Law, complete the following:

    · School of Public Health Application Release Form

    · Essay describing what you think is the most pressing public health issue today, and why a career in this field appeals to you.


Epidemiology and Biostatistics Certificate
Application deadline: Rolling, all applicants accepted for fall or winter terms

Pre-requisites: Bachelor’s degree

Applicants to the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Certificate must submit the following:

1. Completed application available at www.drexel.com

2. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended

3. Resume

4. Results from the IELTS or TOEFL exam (non-native English speakers only)

5. World Education Service evaluation of all foreign transcripts (international applications only)
