Jonathan Purtle works in collaboration with CHE team members on a range of projects which focus on ameliorating heath disparities and promoting culturally competent practices in health care. Jonathan holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Amsterdam and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Roger Williams University. As an undergraduate, Jonathan conducted research which examined the methods by which Romani migrants integrate into Florentine society. Following graduation, Jonathan taught elementary education at a charter school where he facilitated discussion groups for adolescent boy-coordinated research which assessed student morale. Jonathan’s Master’s thesis, Fear and the Death of Ambivalence: A Social Theoretical Analysis of the Homeland Security Advisory System empirically examined the role of political trust in facilitating behavioral responses to emergency warnings. Jonathan has an applied focus in CHE’s emergency preparedness efforts and the development and upkeep of diversitypreparedness.org.
Research Interests: The role of trust in the emergency decision making process, psychosocial effects of health inequality, cross cultural perspectives of mental illness, methods of social control.
