Drexel School of Public Health Student Research Shines

Research Day

May 7, 2015

A handful of SPH student research posters were on display at two research events in the past week, and four posters took home awards.

Drexel University's Research Day was held on May 1, featuring work by students from across the university.

Two School of Public Health posters were awarded prizes:
  • In the category of Graduate - Education and Outreach,  Evan Gooberman and Alexander Krengel won an award for their poster on "Integrating Health Education."  Their advisors in this research included Leland Rockstraw and Kathleen Ryan.
  • In the category of Graduate - Humanities and Social Sciences, Aimee Palumbo won an award for her poster "Identifying Women’s Occupational Patterns in a Long-Term National Health Study." Her advisor is Yvonne Michael, and her co-authors included Robert Wallace, Anneclaire De Roos, Lucy Robinson, Jana Mossey, and Carolyn Cannuscio.
A list of all of the winning posters can be found online. Submitted abstracts and posters from all the schools and colleges, including those from the School of Public Health, can be found online.

At the College of Physicians of Philadelphia Public Health Poster Session held on May 5, Drexel School of Public Health students shared their posters among public health research from around the city.

The judges awarded four outstanding poster awards from the 70 posters on display, and two of them went to Drexel posters.
  • Nick Thompson won for his poster, "Paving the Way to Efficiency in Health Care Using Lean Methodology"
  • Jinggaofu Shi and Sumaiya Khan won for their poster, "Assessment of Community-Level Physical Activity After A Greenway Was Built In Southwest Philadelphia." Included on their poster were Lance Ballester, Yvonne Michael, and Amy Auchincloss.
Congratulations to the student researchers and thanks to everyone - students, faculty and staff - who participated in these events as presenters, visitors, and judges, as the School of Public Health continues to contribute knowledge and scholarship to our field.
