Dr. Stephen Lankenau Leads Studies on Drug Use and Abuse

Dr. Stephen Lankenau recently joined the School of Public Health as an associate professor in the Department of Community Health and Prevention. He brings with him major grants to research prescription drug use by high-risk youth and prevention programs for injection drug users.  The research will help fill important gaps in the epidemiological literature in these areas.

Witnesses to Hunger Goes on Statewide Tour

"Witnesses to Hunger," a research project and photography exhibit that started at the School of Public Health, will soon travel across the state in a tour that was launched by U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and his wife, Mrs. Terese Casey.  The statewide tour recently started with an exhibit at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. | Local Coverage

Dr. Rich Releases New Book on Urban Trauma and Violence

Medical school taught Dr. John Rich how to deal with physical trauma in a city hospital, but not with the fact that young black men were daily shot, stabbed and beaten. His new book is Dr. Rich's account of his personal search to find sense in the juxtaposition of his life and theirs.  Dr. Rich received the 2006 MacArthur Fellowship and was recently elected to the Institute of Medicine for helping to break the cycle of violence in our cities.

Drexel Hosts Philadelphia Site of National Town Hall Meeting on Adults with Autism

The School of Public Health will host a special, Town Hall meeting on Friday, November 13, 2009 to focus on the unique needs of adults with autism. The conference, which will be held at the Paul Peck Center, is one of 16 similar meetings that are being organized by a national consortium around the country that day.

Healthy Neighborhoods May Be Associated With Lower Diabetes Risk | See ABC News and U.S. News & World Report

Individuals living in neighborhoods conducive to physical activity and providing access to healthy foods may have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes in a five-year period, according to a report in the October 12 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.  The lead author of the report was Dr. Amy Auchincloss of the Drexel University School of Public Health.
