Dr. Stephen Lankenau Leads Studies on Drug Use and Abuse

Dr. Stephen Lankenau recently joined the School of Public Health as an associate professor in the Department of Community Health and Prevention. He brings with him major grants to research prescription drug use by high-risk youth and prevention programs for injection drug users.  The research will help fill important gaps in the epidemiological literature in these areas.

Witnesses to Hunger Goes on Statewide Tour

"Witnesses to Hunger," a research project and photography exhibit that started at the School of Public Health, will soon travel across the state in a tour that was launched by U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and his wife, Mrs. Terese Casey.  The statewide tour recently started with an exhibit at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. | Local Coverage

Dr. Rich Releases New Book on Urban Trauma and Violence

Medical school taught Dr. John Rich how to deal with physical trauma in a city hospital, but not with the fact that young black men were daily shot, stabbed and beaten. His new book is Dr. Rich's account of his personal search to find sense in the juxtaposition of his life and theirs.  Dr. Rich received the 2006 MacArthur Fellowship and was recently elected to the Institute of Medicine for helping to break the cycle of violence in our cities.

The SPH welcomes the Class of 2011 and returning students to the fall term.  The new class enters as one of the largest, strongest and most diverse classes in the history of the School of Public Health.

APHA Conference 2009 Returns to Philadelphia

The American Public Health Association will hold its annual conference back in Philadelphia this November, and the School of Public Health is happy to serve as its host school once again. Faculty members from the SPH will present research and lead discussions throughout the conference, and the school will have a major presence at the conference and across the city.

The Drexel University School of Public Health welcomes five new faculty members that will start during the fall 2009 term. The new faculty bring significant classroom teaching experience and a wide-variety of research prominence, including health care, drug abuse, epidemiology, health disparities and tobacco policy.

A powerful research program at the Drexel University School of Public Health uses the technique of "photovoice" to show how the right to food is a human right.  The research and its human rights framework was captured in a recent edition of the international journal, "Health and Human Rights."

Analysis of Health Reform Examines Impacts for Racial and Ethnic Minorities

Dr. Dennis Andrulis, Associate Dean for Research, and Director of the Center for Health Equality at the School of Public Health, recently partnered with The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies Health Policy Institute and Health Management Associates to analyze major health care reform legislation by assessing its implications for racial and ethnic minorities.
